Inspired by „Engellieder“ by Rainer Maria Rilke
I loved her so and held her tight
So tight she almost suffocated
I did not realize her fight
Even when all her magic faded
It took so long until I saw
The silent tears behind her laughter
This was the day I let her go
Not caring ‚bout my morning after
My angel flew into the sky
And I stood back and wondered why
I was so lonely, but in spite
Of it there was no need, no need to cry
One thing I’ll never understand
Although this was our story’s end
‚Though desperation was so near
Where was my pain, where was my fear
Sometimes she flies back to my home
She could not bare this heaven longer
But I know that won’t carry on
Her call of freedom is much stronger
And when she’s crying out my name
I have no mercy for her yearning
I pour my water on her flame
‚Though mine is still much stronger burning
I send her wings into the sky
Where they belong
And I stood back and wondered why
I am so strong
For I’m so lonely, but in spite
Of it there is no need, no need to cry
One thing I’ll never understand
Although this is our story’s end
‚Though desperation is so near
Where is my pain, where is my fear
And when I’m on the way to forget
The glorious times that we both had
I only have to close my eyes for sleep
Then I’m dreaming of my angel
My angel flies into the sky
And I stay back and wonder why
I am so lonely, but in spite
Of it there is no need, no need to cry
One thing I’ll never understand
Although this is our story’s end
‚Though desperation is so near
Where is my pain, where is my fear
